Fly tying vise
Good, sharp serrated scissors
Kevlar thread. Color doesn't matter
Hooks, For steelhead, I use #4 or #2 Gamakatsu Octopus hooks.
Glo-Bug yarn - your choice
Head cement.
Cut 4 pieces of yarn about 1 - 1 1/2 inches long.
Cut one piece of yarn of a different color. Split the one of a different color
in half.
Set the other half to the side.
Put the hook in the vise.
Wrap Kevlar thread on to hook to give the yarn a base.
I Usually give it a little head cement or super glue to the thread base
Place the 4 1/4 pieces of yarn on top of the hook and wrap, very tightly, with
four wraps. Apply constant pressure to the thread
Grab all of the yarn and pull straight up. While applying pressure on the thread,
wrap, 4 times, around the yarn at the top of the hook and tie off.
Apply a little drop of glue to the knot
While you have the yarn lifted straight up, make one straight cut leaving about
1/4 inch of yarn on the hook
Once the yarn is cut, it will take the shape of an egg (round).
Trim if you like
